The Only World I Know
We operate best in the dark
Maybe we're afraid of the light
We go through life trapped inside our heads
With no escape
No escape from the other stuff
That lives in there
The hopes and fears
And connections and conceptions
That make up our lives
Our worlds
All rattling around inside our heads
With our selves
Can there be any light
Inside something so small and so confining
As a human head
Is there really any such thing as light
Maybe what we perceive as light
Is just a trick of the light
As it were
Or maybe it is just fear
Fear of the light
Of not seeing what you expect
Of seeing what's really there
After all
Who's to say what's green is green
And what's red is red
If you could see through my eyes
If I could see
I can see red
I can see faces
I can see situations and connections
That exist in a real world
In the only world I know
